This is directed by Fede Alvarez who made 2013's Evil Dead (not bad) and the first Don't Breathe (pretty good) - so my hopes are high!

Set between 1977’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens movies, the movie stars Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) and Isabela Merced (Sicario 2) as two young people from a distant world facing the xenomorphs.

I am so far behind with all these superhero films! ... This week I finally got round to watching Dr STRANGE #1 and #2.

I really enjoyed #1, and what a great cast! It must have looked & sounded amazing in IMAX-3D. I found it engaging, exciting, funny, creative, atmospheric, and visually impressive, plus the action scenes were easy to follow. Cumberbatch is excellent, as always. Watch big and loud, a recommended 8/10.

But a recurring problem with many of the supe stories for me, is that I enjoy the origin story the most, as the subsequent sequel/s tend to go all crazy. Same with this one.

Despite Raimi at the helm for #2 (at times it feels like Ash V Evil Dead!), and despite some excellent set pieces, the whole thing left me empty. Don't expect much, 6/10

Anyone else enjoy superhero stuff on a casual rather than fanatical basis ? What do you recommend?

So far, I've enjoyed: Guardians #1, Avengers #1, Ten Rings, Justice League (Snyder), Deadpools, Suicide Squad.

'OK': Iron Man x3 (I think I've seen them all), Wonder Woman #1, Black Widow, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Didn't think much of: Black Panther #1, Batman v Superman.

TV enjoyed: Peacemaker, Wandavision, Watchmen, Sandman, The Boys, Moon Knight.

Didn't much like TV: Hawkeye, She-Hulk.

Good grief ... I've watched more than I thought !

The Gray Man, brand new to Netflix. The Russo brothers clearly want to be invited to direct a Bond movie because this trots to a different location of the globe every five minutes. The plot, and I'm being kind, is 'top hit man's employers want him dead because he stumbles across a usb stick with incriminating data on it'. Yes, that one again. Although none of them are required to do much it's a watchable cast (apart from new prettyboy on the block Rege-Jean Page who, as one of the top baddies, carries as much menace and gravitas as a cut-out of John Major). What does it most harm however, given that it's an action flick, is how much of the action is badly handled, with the bulk of it completely trashed by poor editing. There's a huge shootout and bus chase sequence that should have been a showstopper, but it's a mess. The script is forgettable, the score more so, too much swoopy drone camera work (this decade's wobblecam), the end credits kick in with 14 mins to go, and the ending shows the Russos are hoping for a sequel. I'm not recommending it; on the whole it all felt insubstantial, as if a stiff breeze would blow it all away. I wish it had blown away the horrific de-ageing of BB Thornton in scene 1.
