WP Plugin: Login IP & Country Restriction By Iulia Cazan

I have used this plugin before and can recommend (the free version is fully functional).

Be aware if you're using a VPN, as certain countries are now blacklisted from login.

Any problems, let me know.

There is now a new section to the forums (at the bottom) that will only display to logged-in users. Also, it will not be indexed by Google.

Feel free to add a topic thread. Let me know if you have any suggestions, or if there are issues with the implementation.

This is how it displays for me (below), via > https://dvdforums.co.uk/community/ ... but it will depend on your specific bookmark, or your method of reading the forum. You will need to navigate to the main forum page at /community/ to see both sections, or to /community/club/ to see only the members-only posts (all accessible via clicking - it sounds more compicated than it is).

In addition, posts in the MO Club will not appear publicly in the 'RECENT POSTS' footer widget (bottom of page).

It's possibly after a planned outage/upgrade in the last 24hrs - maybe a server setting was updated, affecting the site database >

The database was set as utf8mb3 instead of utf8mb4

I've logged a ticket with the web host. Hopefully we can get them back !

@driver8 Can you tweak it to remove the full stop at the end of the link? It breaks the link in Outlook (at least I assume it's that)

but the web client doesn't seem to parse it as a link still

Weird ... I removed the fullstop, that's all. Any clues what the link looks like?

I have therefore tightened forum security to ban unknown user names.

This also means that if you make a typo with your username/email, your IP address will be banned for 24h.

If this becomes a frustrating issue, let me know and I will review the policy (post here, or via CONTACT form).

My webhost blocked email-sending capabilities (without telling me) due to the unusual number of forum emails that get sent out - password resets, thread updates, mentions, etc.

Hopefully this will get resolved soon, so apologies (1) for it not working for so long, and (2) for a possible influx of new emails! (feel free to unsubscribe to the threads).

I've now removed the ↪️ Reply link under each post - when threads get long, particularly the Politics thread, it was difficult to follow the latest replies as they were appearing halfway down the page.

It worked well with a short quiet thread, and if you subscribed via the bell or email - the link would take you to each specific reply-of-a-reply.

But particularly as the select quote feature works well, there seems less point in replies to each reply.

If you miss this feature then shout, and maybe we'll need a vote, but as we get older we need things to be easier to follow!

2) Is there any way of reducing the number of times this forum asks yo to log in? On Safari it seems to be almost every day, and on Windows browsers it's far more frequent than any other site I've ever used.
