you need 4 or 5 viewings to make some sense of it all
Yeah, I'm a big Nolan fan but it seemed too complex for the sake of it, to me. Looks and sounds amazing though (apart from the mumbling).
I think I've seen it about 4 times and have some idea of what's going on. Lacks the emotional core of Nolan's best films - but he does consistently turn out massive, big-screen entertainment without getting dumb. I think he and Denis Villeneuve are in a tiny club.
Yeah, we gave up about half way through. Could barely understand what they were saying and the plot was just convoluted for the sake of it.
I think this says it all:
Glad it’s not just me. I’m sure there was a great film in there somewhere but it’s so copulated. I’ve even read a few of the pages online trying to explain it but that hasn’t really helped!
It's not just Nolan. It's the current thing, poor dialogue recording. The older a film is, I find, the less (if ever) I need to rewind or put subs on. I don't know if it's just a fad (like the wobblecam that ruined action scenes for a decade) or perhaps more advanced/sensitive recording equipment picking more up and sound mixers just leaving it in, but it's as if audible dialogue recording is a lost art.
I was just about hanging on and got the bit in the storage unit - guessed it was one of themselves running away.
But then it all fell apart after that and there is noway I am watching it again!
Airplane! While reciting some of the funniest lines to a youngster who had neither seen nor heard of it, I made myself want to watch it again, for the first time in many years. It has lost none of its appeal, with a high joke hit rate that had me chortling out loud almost all the way through. It would probably help if you're aware of the films it spoofs - coming as it did at the end of 'disaster movie' decade - but it's by no means essential. A cast of mainly tv actors plays it hilariously straight in a formula that has been often copied since, usually resulting in miserable failure (the direct sequel, with none of the original's writing/directing team on board, was lousy). If you haven't seen it in a while, go on, go on, go on...

surely it is time to watch again.
Top Secret is worthy of a rewatch too. And stop calling me Shirley.
I'm a bit slow, watched the way way back at the weekend and loved it. Well paced, great actors and a great story that plays homage to all the previous summer movies. Worth a watch if like me you haven't seen it before, I believe its on the leaving soon list on Amazon.
