I unapologetically like all the Alien films ... just something about the atmosphere ...
This is directed by Fede Alvarez who made 2013's Evil Dead (not bad) and the first Don't Breathe (pretty good) - so my hopes are high!
Set between 1977’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens movies, the movie stars Cailee Spaeny (Mare of Easttown) and Isabela Merced (Sicario 2) as two young people from a distant world facing the xenomorphs.
Yeah, saw that trailer had dropped today, but don't watch them coz of spoilers. I see it's coming to theaters on the 8th of Hexember.
This promises to be so much fun ... (and no, I don't watch trailers either!)
Let's hope they don't mess this one up ...
I only hope the pop singer's acting has improved, because she was very poor in A Star is Born.
Getting mostly positive reviews - plus a 7 minute standing ovation at Cannes.
I'm a big fan of the aesthetics and energy of the first film, so hopefully it won't disappoint. Would love to see both films in an IMAX double-bill.

I'm setting the bar low, after the last one. I grew to mostly enjoy it after several viewings but only by ignoring Hardy. He was an abomination as Max - so going Maxless this time might not be a bad thing. I'm okay with Taylor-Joy but wary about Hemsworth, who has a very limited skill set that clown Thor fit perfectly. What worries me most though is the increased reliance on cgi and green screening that I've read about. I think green screening is creeping in everywhere now, and I'm good at spotting it, to the point that I'm relieved whenever I see an exterior shot that was actually filmed outdoors. I was mightily disappointed in the recent Shogun, for example, as it was about 95% screened and digified. Anyway, I'll wait and see what turns up; I generally only read film reviews now after I've seen them.
I'm late to this one and didn't know the cast till I just watched this. I think it looks like an absolute stinker, one they should have left well alone. For a start, a good way to NOT alienate fans of the game - who will be the most vocal critics - would have been to keep the original Claptrap voice artist. I don't want to hear Jack Black's voice coming from it. And as for Cate Blanchett... damn fine actress, but now literally decades too old. The icing on the shit cake for me though was finding out it's directed by Eli Roth, a B-grade hack who got his foot on the ladder by making friends with Quentin Tarantino. There's only one of the characters that might work - Gina Gershon as Moxxi. That's great casting.
Not a film in this iteration but... NO!
I couldn't watch more than a few seconds of this.
By French writer/director Coralie Fargeat who made Revenge (2017) comes The Substance (2024), with excellent reviews (releases 20 September) ...
