Does anyone play downloaded content on their TV ?

I still don't have a dedicated media PC for streaming (via Plex, or similar) and I don't want to leave my laptop running.

So I regularly fill up a 128GB pen and play via a small Android media player.

I'm guessing that a TV running the latest Google TV os will be better than an Android TV model, right ?

So does anyone use Google TV to play downloaded content ? It's difficult to find out if a specific TV model can play 1080p/x265, or even whether it will be powerful enough to run 4k/x265/hdr. Anyone experienced this ?

To supplement my projector viewing, I'm looking at a budget TCL, maybe the 55" P735 with its HDR, Dolby Vision, and microdimming.

I'm using an nVidia Shield 2019 and Emby, with Emby Server running on my NAS. The Shield is Android TV and has Disney, Netflix, Prime video and the UKTV TV services. I watch everything through it. The tube version can struggle with high bitrate 4k content, but the full fat version is fine. It won't do hardware decoding of VP9 if that's a factor.
