sounds nasty.  Hope you are better soon.

I managed to not pass it on to my wife after being very careful.  Now she thinks she should have caught it on purpose in place of vaccination for the winter.

My wife went for her COVID jab this morning at a local chemist and found out that they're also offering the flu jab at the same time (so she had both). Official reason is doing both at once is better for the immune system and having them in September (rather than the previous Govt. guideline of October) means you're going to be less likely to get ill later in the year.

Other BIG thing of note, this COVID vaccine is not for the new variant(s), it's the previous vaccine. That was a surprise to hear (especially as the likes of the US has brought out the new vaccine). The double whammy of the two vaccines will help, but it's not guaranteed if you're not careful.

Had my flu jab on Monday through work and having the COVID one this afternoon.

Anyone's brain seemingly like mush at the moment? My concentration is shot and am having trouble doing my normal video editing work. It could be [stress of] my heart condition, but after the bad bout of (actual) COVID in April I'm starting to struggle with basically any thinking.

Yes, I still find concentrating difficult, unless I actually manage to get into that zone of non-stop work for 2-3 hours at a time.

I also seem to get words and names "on the tip of my tongue" more so than usual.

(Oof ... reading back through the thread, I'd forgotten just how much hard work Jez could be!)

Anyone else got Long Covid? I’ve had 2 bouts of Covid this year after avoiding it for since it first arrived here. Ive got some brain fog ...

These days, we're pretty sure we've got brain fog, but it's one of those intangibles. What I do know is that we're both making more typos these last 2 years (as I get replies to my emails with the typos clearly visible!)

People with long COVID have symptoms such as: pain, fatigue, “brain fog,” difficulty concentrating and remembering, disturbances in sleep and mood, postexertional-malaise (“energy crash”), dizziness, gut disturbances.

Talked over stuff with my manager at work and have been allowed to take a couple of weeks off (mainly as my being unable to do simple video editing was stressing me out more). Going to book a Dr. appointment (in case there's talk of singing me off) as well as letting my cardiac hospital people know what's going on.

It's troubling, but it's all apparently part and parcel of HCM: https://4hcm.org/brain-fog/

How it started: *it's just like the flu*

How it's going:

https://news.northwestern.edu/stories/2022/03/covid-infects-penis-testicles-and-prostate/

results indicate that the testicular pain, erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism, reduced sperm count, and decreased fertility associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection are a direct consequence of infection of cells of the male reproductive tract (and not indirect fever and inflammation).

10-20% of SARS-CoV-2-infected men have symptoms related to male genital tract dysfunction ... tens of millions of men should evaluate their fertility

Been a while since the last covid update, and even longer since some good news :

Concerns about Long COVID persist, but evidence indicates a declining risk over time, with the worst impacts already experienced by the majority.

  • The lethality of COVID-19 has now dropped by a factor of x10, to the range of seasonal flu.
  • Infection risk is decreasing over time, and the risk of Long COVID per infection is declining significantly.
  • Rate of COVID-19 infections are decreasing over time, more akin to endemic seasonal viruses.
  • Estimates show a plateau (<15%) in the risk of Long COVID over time, not a continually increasing trend.
  • Many people do continue to suffer from symptoms that persist years after their infection.

Interesting (long) thread here ... https://twitter.com/SalvMattera/status/1739173910749520280?s=20

Leading to POTS, which I'd never heard of, and theories of viral reservoirs - fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, racing heart, heat intolerance, alcohol/caffeine intolerance, ... https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/postural-tachycardia-syndrome/
