We should drink plenty water on waking, and eat within 1 hour.

Fasting for 12-14-16hrs per day is healthy when done overnight. So eat an early breakfast and an early dinner. Supper is bad for the health.

Unhealthy foods are better consumed earlier in the day, so have that slice of chocolate cake with your morning coffee, rather than as evening dessert/supper.

Skipping Breakfast May Harm Immune Response

There's been a lot of confusion over cholesterol in animal foods (often eggs) usually stirred up by people with financial interests (or those justifying their unhealthy lifestyles).

I love a fried egg butty (with tomato sauce) as much as the next guy, but I hardly ever eat them anymore (in fact, since moving towards low fat/oil, they started to give me indigestion).

There is significant correlation between high cholesterol intake and cancers of the: stomach, colon, rectum.

Our body makes all the cholesterol we need. Excess cholesterol goes down to our colon and may help cancerous polyps grow faster.

The Role of Endotoxins in Alzheimer’s and Dementia

High cholesterol (240) in your 40s is associated with increased Alzheimer’s and dementia later in life.
Saturated fats clog cerebral arteries, choking off blood flow to the brain's memory centres (the same atherosclerosis that causes heart attacks).
Saturated fat: main sources in USA diet = cheese, ice cream, cake, chicken (and pork, burgers, beef).
A single meal high in saturated fat can impede cognitive ability 5+ hours after the meal.
Endotoxins from red and white meats are highly inflammatory.
Fibre-rich foods can lessen the effects of endotoxins by reducing inflammation, with long-term benefits.

Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle to Help Prevent Dementia as You Age

As we age, 1/3 of us will suffer some degree of dementia. There is a strong association between an inflammatory diet and a x3.5 increase in dementia.
The following modifiable risk factors account for 40% of worldwide dementia: diet, physical activity, cognitive activity, no smoking, no alcohol.

What Makes a Food Inflammatory or Anti-Inflammatory?
Inflammatory foods turn on your immune system, increasing risk for heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancers.
Food determines the proportions of good and bad bacteria in your colon.

Avoid: meat, fried foods, added sugar, all sweetened drinks.

Organic and Grass-fed meats are NOT any healthier

There may be slight nutritional differences between organic and grass-fed meats, compared with non-organic and grain-fed varieties, but based on current evidence it’s unlikely to make a difference to our health.

“The differences between organically and conventionally produced meats were minimal ... consumption of organic meat does not diminish the carcinogenic potential

Why Eating Meat is Associated with Heart Disease

There is a 22% greater risk of heart disease for every daily 100g serving of lean meat. Increased heart attack risk is directly related to blood levels of TMAO, which comes from the carnitine found in red meat. TMAO blood levels were a far better predictor of heart disease than high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels.

Meat is loaded with choline and carnitine, which pass to your colon where bacteria convert them to trimethylamine (TMA) that is absorbed into the bloodstream and passes to the liver, where liver enzymes convert TMA to TMAO.

Note that some energy drinks and 'food' supplements have added lecithin/choline/carnitine and should be avoided.

When you switch from eating mammal meat to eating chicken/fish/plants, the concentrations of TMA-making colon bacteria are reduced, and blood levels of TMAO drop markedly.

Avoid mammal meat and all processed meats; instead, eat: lots of veg, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds. An anti-inflammatory diet reduces your risk of heart attacks, strokes, diabetes.

Meat is Associated with Increased Risk for Diabetes

This seems counter-intuitive, but mounting evidence from the last decade is pretty clear.

• Eating meat daily increases the risks of high blood sugar and diabetes; risk for diabetes increases by 36% for every daily 100g of meat (or just 50g processed meat).
• People eating a largely plant-based diet were far less likely to develop diabetes, be overweight, have high blood pressure, have high cholesterol, take blood pressure and cholesterol drugs.

How Does Eating Meat Increase Diabetes Risk?

• Preservatives and nitrites/nitrates added to processed meats can damage the pancreas and decrease insulin production.
• Meat is high in fat that increases fat deposition in the liver; 'fatty liver' causes insulin resistance. Restricting meat reduces visceral fat and improves insulin sensitivity, even more than a conventional diabetic diet.
• Meat contains highly-absorbable heme iron that damages insulin-producing pancreatic cells. High iron levels cause insulin resistance.

Gut Bacteria and Auto-Immune Diseases

Auto-immune diseases can be caused (and worsened) by having pro-inflammatory bacteria in your gut.

Autoimmune diseases include: alopecia, psoriasis, lupus, Crohn’s, some arthritis, ulcerative colitis, vitiligo, fibromyalgia ...

• You have billions of bacteria in your colon (we have x10 more bacteria than human cells!) Some of the colon bacteria are good and help absorb food. But some bad bacteria punch holes in your intestines to cause “leaky gut” that allow bacteria into your bloodstream.
• Your immunity responds by producing large amounts of cells and proteins to destroy bacteria.
• When your immunity stays active (inflammation) it can attack your own cells - joints (rheumatoid arthritis) and brain (chronic fatigue).

Many people's auto-immune diseases can be managed with an anti-inflammatory lifestyle (in addition to other treatments) >
• Eat lots: fruit & veg, whole grains, nuts & seeds.
• Restrict: red meat, sugared drinks, sugar-added foods, and fried foods.
• Exercise and lose weight.

Anyone else here with a sweet tooth ?? ? This is interesting ... date 'sugar' is the healthiest sweetener and very easy to make.

Soak dates in boiling water for 1 hour. Add 1 tsp lemon juice, blend till smooth. Keeps for 3 weeks in a jar in the fridge.

Additions to up the taste: soya sauce, vinegar, tamarind.

Hmmm, shame you can't use it in hot drinks as that's my only personally added sugar use.

I never understood the attraction of risking pregnancy for 10 minutes of fun, when there are so many other ways of giving mutual pleasure.

I also never understood the girls who would have full sex with boys before insisting on and enjoying manual/oral sex themselves, and sticking at that 'level' mutually for a while. There's so much fun to be had getting naked, without the risk of pregnancy!

Anyway, nowadays when young people have finally been switching from risky baby-making behaviours ... this is grim news.

While it's arguably healthier for smokers to switch to vaping, it's very likely that more vaping health risks will be discovered in the coming years, as usage proliferates and data is gathered.

Plus there are certain to be many young people who get hooked on vaping that would never have smoked - I mean, c'mon ...

Blue Razz Lemonade, Double Apple Mango, Ice Pink Lemonade, Red Energy, Strawberry Cheese Cake, Iron Tru, Guava Passion ...

... vaping can induce bronchiolitis (closes off small airways in the lungs) ... irreversible with prolonged vaping ... similar cellular changes as smoking, and elevated protease enzymes that damage lung function.

people who used nicotine e-cigarettes had increased blood pressure, heart rate and blood vessel constriction ... similar to people who smoke cigarettes, but now occurring at a much younger age.

Most of the added vaping flavours/chemicals have not undergone testing to check if they are safe at high temperatures and inhaled (turning into more reactive chemicals that damage lung tissue).

Yeah, the whole vaping thing really annoys me. Yes, it's better for a smoker to move to it to get them off fags, but it's not something that should be sold to kids and certainly shouldn't be being sold as a health product.
