This is another great example of the press twisting the science to fit their (capitalist) agenda, in the same way as the false declarations: "Butter is back!" and "Go to work on an egg!".

By all means enjoy your meat, but don't pretend it's healthy (or environmentally sustainable).

Despite the headline (and their photo), here are some quotes from the actual article! >

errr... so the evidence says eating more than 75/90g is definitely unhealthy! Who eats so little?? (BBC: What 70g of meat looks like)

Why your blood pressure should be under 120 - your GP is probably lying to you, by saying it's OK for your BP to increase as we get older. Everyone should have their own arm blood pressure cuff - inexpensive (Amazon deals), reliable, and without the stress of a medical exam. Every night for a week, take your BP after resting for 10mins, just before bed. If your average systolic is >120, you have high BP and need lifestyle changes immediately.

one thing that seems to defeat the vaping is better - is that it seems constant - smokers would go for or have a cig then do something else - vaping seems to be stuff in the mouth of many and constantly puffing away - might as well fit it to their head

Apparently, loads of kids are getting hooked - they are already introducing rules in the US and Aus to remove all the youth-targeted flavours and limit advertising. These rules can't come quick enough in the UK, but I wonder if the anti-nanny state Tories really care?

Interesting. Mine is higher than the recommended and is higher than last time I did a regular set of BP tests at home. I am usually slim and my weight has not varied by but than a couple of pounds for the last ten years but have put on 8lbs in the last 8 months. Looking at their recommendations, there are loads of things I could do to improve my diet. I really need to lose that weight. I lose some during the week when I am eating ok but then something fun is on at the weekend and my eating (and sometimes alcohol intake) goes up and I regain it. Must do better!

Yes, I'm slim too and have high-ish BP (and high-ish resting heart rate) - indicators of increased risk of heart disease.

Therefore, we just need to exercise a bit more, and eat a bit healthier than otherwise.

Even the WHO are now warning against all types of artificial sweeteners - 

Artificial sweeteners:

• have not been shown to help people lose body fat long-term (Front Nutr, Jan 2021)
• increase hunger so people may eat more and gain weight (Cell Metabolism, July 2016)
• may increase risk for diabetes, heart attacks and premature death (Nature Medicine, Feb 2023)
• do not supply any necessary nutrients.

acesulfame K, aspartame, advantame, cyclamates, neotame, saccharin, sucralose, stevia and derivatives.

Low-meat and meat-free diets associated with lower overall cancer risk

Risk of cancer in regular/low meat-eaters, fish-eaters, and vegetarians

Eating meat five times or less per week is associated with a lower overall cancer risk.

Data from 470,000 adults (40-70yo) - incidence of new cancers over 11 years = 12% of participants.

- 52% ate meat >5 times/week,
- 44% ate meat =<5 times/week = 2% lower cancer risk (especially colorectal cancer).
- 2% ate fish not meat = 10% lower cancer risk (especially prostate cancer).
- 2% vegetarian/vegan = 14% lower cancer risk (especially prostate & breast cancers).
