You probably saw the headlines and sighed inwardly, as I did - despite loathing rugby as a kid.

The word "abuse" initially seems wrong in this context, although useful to attract media headlines (and forums discussion). But if you think about it for a minute - to subject children to a known high risk of concussion (and possible brain injury) that is an unavoidable part of the game, often with no opt-out option ... well, that takes on a different tone!

The paper's authors expand ...

Any cow juice lovers?

I moved to soya milk 10 years ago, but still enjoy the occasional ice-cream, blue cheese, and Greek yoghurt.

We do have butter in the fridge, but it lasts so long these days it starts to turn funny. So I have a few emergency 10g portions of Anchor !

Low-Salt Diet to Help Lower Blood Pressure

Reducing salt can reduce your blood pressure as much as taking the best meds.

Eat more meals at home, don't use the salt shaker at the table or while cooking, check food labels. A single pickle can have one-day’s full recommended limit of salt, and a bowl of canned soup can have two days' worth !!

If your average blood pressure is over 130/85, you should immediately make lifestyle changes to lower it.

• Eat mostly plants: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds.
• Restrict all meats, sugar-added foods and drinks, and all fried foods.
• Avoid extra salt, crisps, processed meats, salted nuts ... Keep them out of your house!
• Aerobic and resistance exercise for 30 mins/day.
• 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

This is a major breakthrough! So many diseases and conditions caused by immune response and inflammation.

Increasing evidence that science has been wrong about this ... of all the things !

Latest advice is for pregnant women to limit exposure to fluoride in drinking water. Everyone else seems OK, but don't swallow your toothpaste!

Despite drinking “optimally fluoridated water,” the study of more than 500 mother-child pairs found that higher fluoride exposure during pregnancy appeared to translate into lower child intelligence (measured at ages three to four).

I'm at an age now where several of my aunts & uncles have had stents and heart surgery (aged 70-80).

This is very interesting and quite eye-opening ...

TLDR;

... the results showed unequivocally: zero benefits to non-emergency angioplasty and stents for stable heart disease.

... angioplasty and stents do not prevent heart attacks, do not offer long-term angina pain relief, and do not improve survival.

Some years back, I decided to cut through the tabloidesque populist spin on the latest medical breakthroughs and get to the actual science.

I actually used to take collagen supplements (back in 2005) ... 🤦 as Dr G points out, using the same logic, why don't we eat brains to make ourselves smarter, and eyeballs to improve our vision?

the fact that a sugar pill (placebo) worked just as well as the collagen supplements suggests that collagen does not work.
