Has your Mum had an X-ray? My Mum has a frequent occasional cough, and does have a small shadow on her lung (likely from 15 years of smoking) - a possible trigger for the cough, but thankfully only scarring and nothing more serious.
tinnitus, a high-pitched electronic whine that has been constantThis can be a rare effect of COVID (or a rarer effect of the vax).
I've had mild tinnitus for years - I'm guessing since my student days of going to gigs and using a Walkman. Only really noticeable in totally quiet spaces, but it's possible to tune out.
There are some youtube videos to help - some simple exercises, with what seem like remarkable results (I think this was posted on TDF, years ago?)
@driver8 Thanks, I've seen my share of 'how to cure instantly...' videos from American doctors. First thing I did when the whine started was watch a few. I think if you were to advise a tinnitus sufferer to stand on their head and have an accomplice squirt mustard down their nose, you'd find a 'hey, this really worked!' in the comments. And my mum's had her x-rays, she had to as my dad has lesions on his lungs from working with asbestos long before the health risks of that were known, and in his youth would have carried it home with him. But in that respect she's fine, she's just prone to chest infections. If there's one out there she'll get it.
@jez. Possibly. According to the NHS website, it's something that might just go away. They say it can be caused by medications, including antibiotics, which I took a course of over Xmas. Could be that, could be something else. I think it's one of those things like migraine, or 'restless leg' that might have several triggers but that in most cases can't be pinned down. There's no cure as far as I know (despite the assertions of Dr Brad Weisenheimer MD's YouToob channel) and it's pretty much a case of just learning to live with it. I'm waiting for a proper hearing test, because the thing I'm most worried about is that it might be a sign of imminent hearing loss (so the NHS say).
Great headline, from the ever-reliable dick-doc, Andrew Siegel MD.

Came down with a nasty* case of norovirus Friday night and spent 11hours holding on the the toilet.
NHS 111 was no help, so Saturday morning paid to see a private doctor for a face-to-face consult. My wife bundled me in the car and did a round 30 mile trip. Doctor was great and he checked me over and prescribed stronger antiemetics (ones that combat nausea from chemotherapy), as the ones I had for migraines weren't doing it.
He was as concerned with my heart condition, but thought I could control the vomiting and rehydrate I should be okay.
First tablet and no more vomiting, but I'm absolutely wrecked. I can stand and eat and drink, but my energy levels plummet quickly.
Going to be my first days off work sick in aages, but not capable of even just logging in from home.
*is there any other version of it?
That sounds hideous Boink. Hope you are soon on the mend.
Sorry to hear, @boink - get well soon. Chicken soup for the soul. ?
I think I had this years ago - wiped me out for a few days, at a time when I was house-sitting alone ... don't think I've ever been more miserable!
Hey - do you live in NW UK ? One of my FB friends came down with this about 2-3 days ago. (I can tell you're not him though, from details in your post!)
Nope, SE Essex here.
The pharmacist said there were four other people prescribed this antiemetic in the past 24 hours, so it's doing the rounds.
I'm now up though still very fragile. Not much of an appetite so the wife bought me some Complan to get something inside me. Also still getting a slightly raised temperature, so it's going to be several days before I'm healthy.
1 / 5 Do not recommend.
Hang in there!
Getting up in the night to pee ?
It's likely your enlarged prostate, but also try cutting down on salt (which is a good thing for everyone to do anyway) and don't eat/drink for several hours before bed.
