Good start to the day, but inhaled a bit of dry food over breakfast and coughed so badly I have been back in bed most of the day. Feels like I've undone all of the steps forward from the past few days, but recovery from heart surgery is a long process, regardless.

Tomorrow morning I'm getting the last two stitches out, so that's a relief.

Sorry to hear that ... take it easy for a few days, and stick to soggy Weetabix!

Interesting you say that, as it's something I have been more aware of these last few years (post-covid?) - I am more careful when eating peanuts, or taking a Panadol.

Don't know if anything in my throat has physically changed, or if I'm just more aware of my mortality!

Went to the doctor's this morning and the nurse took out the last two stitches (without any issue). So that's the last of it all (apart from the stuff that's staying in there).

Then as I had another broken night of zzz I had to go back to bed for a few hours.

Nice morning, so walked a whole mile today.

When I got home I wasn't breathless (as I would have been before the operation), just felt like I'd been for a walk, no biggy.

That is amazing to realise.

Monday was three weeks from the operation, just three weeks.

It's still a slow recovery (as I was told it would be) and most days are good, though I do have to rest up if I overdo it (mainly too much walking). Still haven't found the best bed / pillow position for an uninterrupted night's sleep, but everything else is good. Need to nail down my bedtime as I have been catching up on TV and still wide awake at midnight.

Sternum is still sore when breathing, though not sore to the touch and the scar is healing very well. I do have a small cough that won't go away, but apart from that I'm amazed how far I've come along in such a short time.

Re: the eye blob, or now referred to as a "possible cotton wool spot." Did book a second eye test with my usual optician as the original practice does not seem to have sent a letter to my doctor (bastards) and this morning got a referral letter to choose an eyecare hospital and went with the closest one. Waiting list is approx. 22 weeks, so will use my private cover to get seen quicker (at the best eye hospital in the country, Moorfields Eye Hospital in London).

Edit: Finally no longer constipated. Was warned that this was a side effect of surgery and holy hell they weren't wrong (was literally passing somethings that felt like it was made of breezeblocks at one point).
Healthy diet with lots of fruit, veg, fibre and plenty of water and I'm back to regular.

Good news, boink! Considering these kinds of ops are so common they're considered normal, it still sounds like a helluva thing to go through. Several of my family have had stents fitted, and two have had heart surgery.

Cotton wool spots - I had not heard of this before, and was initially wondering if you had 'floaters'.

That must be the edit of the week! 💩 I'd not heard of this side-effect of surgery. Lentils and beans are good, and a while ago I found the dried soya mince very effective - two movements per day.

t's 7 weeks since my operation Monday just gone, and recovery is still a slow thing. I'm paying the price for overdoing it somewhat the last few days (bit of gardening and stacking the dishwasher, FFS).

Still have my morning cough and have been having the odd chest pains, and getting out of breath walking. All possibly not helped by the hot weather and trying to sleep with fewer pillows.

No wonder they say it's a long recovery, it is.

So have been having a few quiet days down the garden, lazing with the chickens (in the shade as one of my meds makes my skin more sensitive to sunlight). Have read more books these last seven weeks than I have in years.

Anyone had a bladder infection ?? 💦 🍆

I'm still recovering (slowly) from my last one, which was bloody awful (although I think I may have contracted something else in addition!)

So that's my third bladder infection in the last 8 years or so.

ChatGPT wasn't much help (link) and hygiene-wise, I've been 'bidet-washing' for 35 years.

So the most likely causes for me would seem to be dehydration and enlarged prostate, both of which are rather mild but could be increasing my susceptibility.

Sorry to hear that mate. Hope you're feeling better now.

I'm having trouble with my recovery from surgery 4 months ago. Was up in Barts again last week having a transesophageal echocardiogram to see if I had fluid around my heart. Thankfully I do not, so they've changed my medications around to see if that's the cause.

My question today though, anyone here have health insurance and successfully used it?
