Really? Sheesh ... although I can believe it.
Corbyn inspired the 'real' left, but his supporters find it hard to switch to Starmer. Add the Brexiters who worry that Labour would wrangle the country back into Europe, plus the "what is a woman?" question (ie: the Eddie Izzard haters) means there are millions of people who currently would never consider voting Labour even to their personal detriment.
Then there's the anti-establishment vote who think Boris is 'one of the lads', although how that applies to Rishi and Rees Mogg I will never understand. And the Tory "low taxes" policies, cos ... who likes paying taxes, right?
If I had a vote it would have to be for Rishi, as I think Truss is unsuitable for the world stage - she's incredibly awkward, and I feel embarrassed just watching her! ?
More awesome cost savings from the Rishi at the expense of the Civil Service: No more automatic promotions based on time served and all pay rises to be performance based. Wonder how much that's been costed to save seeing as both of those were stopped being done 20 years ago when Labour was last in power.
Good grief ... there's still more than a week left ... This is never ending!
And the only thing BoJo seems to be bothered about is photo ops with Ukranians, for his 'legacy'.
This is in Private Eye apparently - I'm hearing this exact sentiment on phone-in radio shows !
Thank goodness it's now over. BoJo has just given his final speech outside no 10.
No surprises that Truss was voted in, although apparently if BoJo had been a choice it's likely he would have been voted in again! ?
Seems like Sunak lost mainly cos he was accused of stabbing BoJo in the back.
Truss's win was a more modest 57:43, as apparently the more that Truss spoke in public, the more votes she lost to Sunak!
So weirdly, the party voted Truss, but MPs preferred Sunak, so Truss has quite a job to win them over.
Also weird is that only 82.6% of party members actually voted ... why would you be a member but not vote for the next PM ??
Shows how flawed the whole 'democratic' process really is.
PS - good grief, they've got David Starkey on GB News!
hehe ... this is like the good old days, when Colin would close the thread!
Oh, and no need for the enormous block-quotes - I've just removed them as they become too large.
Yes, I should have stopped ages ago.
Everyone can see what's what.
Ian Duncan Smith was just on R4 - he's a Truss supporter, and was offered a Cabinet role, but turned it down, as has Nadine Dorries, Rishi Sunak (obv) and surprisingly Penny Mordaunt (who was tipped as Deputy PM).
So likely we will get a rogue's gallery of friends/loyalists rather than an experienced/qualified team :
Kwasi Kwarteng, Suella Braverman, James Cleverly, Kemi Badenoch, Jacob Rees-Mogg ? and John Redwood ?
Oh, and ... ?
and to think we could have had chaos with Ed Milliband...
hehe ... (and I'm just listening to Ed on R5 right now ...)
