As I mainly follow UK comedians, journos, news outlets and feminists, my twitter feed is in absolute meltdown over Brand - the perfect cross-sectional story.
Once again, so many people have been awed by charisma, power and money-making abilities, that organisations have enabled and helped empower these abusers. Such a toxic work culture.
Watch on Channel 4 - Dispatches
Read at The Times (paywall) or The Guardian.
I'm unable to find a free version currently, as it looks like archive.ph is down. The full article is well worth reading, but contains some grim details.
One interesting take I saw on Twitter - that after #METOO, Brand would have known that these revelations would eventually come out, and deliberately changed track to promote conspiracy ideas and distrust of MSM, and to groom his followers.
his charismatic and rebellious performances give credence to several prominent conspiracy theories, including the suggestions that the Covid pandemic, support for Ukraine and climate crisis concern are all masking the activities of shadowy global manipulators.
It's no surprise that his public defenders are the usual gobby right-wing extremes ... Gbeebies, JP, Musk, etc.
Elon Musk, Andrew Tate and Tucker Carlson led the charge in supporting Russell Brand in the wake of allegations he raped and abused four women over seven years.
Musk: “Of course. They don’t like competition ... a “coordinated media attack” for his right-wing criticism of the media.
Tate: “Welcome to the club”
Carlson: “Criticize the drug companies, question the war in Ukraine, and you can be pretty sure this is going to happen.”
GBN: “You are being attacked. Keep going. You’re a hero, welcome on my @GBNEWS show anytime.”
Lot's more to come out over the coming days & weeks, eg:

Always loathed him and avoided any film he was in, even before the infamous prank call thing.
He is credibly accused of rape and sexual assault — including of a 16 year old. Credibly is an especially key word in this instance because due to UK libel laws, the accusations need to be essentially rock-solid and totally vetted before an article like this can be published. The evidence in the article was researched for multiple years.
I believe the women. I know a court of law has to wait to proclaim Brand guilty until proven so, but I’m not a court of law and have no such rules. Personally, I find it quite impossible to believe he is innocent of these charges, but can easily believe he is guilty of them.
... not attracted to women, he’s attracted to seeing women degraded, shamed and “put in their place.” I don’t know what the term for that should be, but it certainly shouldn’t sit in the same category as heterosexual.
Wouldn’t it make Occam’s-razor-sense that every man who is openly hateful toward women, who makes jokes about rape, who routinely degrades women, who suggests women should have fewer rights, can and should be assumed to have a lengthy history of violence against women? Howard Stern came to mind and I know almost nothing about him. No doubt other men come to mind for you.
Oh, my ...
I usually disagree with 99% of what Tory Boy has to say (and enjoy his riffing with Kevin Maguire) but this is worth a watch ...
