I was vaguely aware of the Israel/ Palestine issues, and that neither side has any claim to being on the side of "right", but this (7 year old) video gave me some extra info (seems Johnny Harris was part of the guys behind it and from what I've seen of his work, likely well researched):

The Israel-Palestine conflict: a brief, simple history - YouTube

Also a write-up on what may have incited the violence: Why did Hamas invade Israel? - Vox

I think it's quite embarrassing (though not surprising) how much the west is siding with the oppressors rather than trying to push for peace. Even Ukraine has done so, and they're basically Palestine in this conflict.

That VOX video above is excellent, and sort-of continues here (2016), to get to the root of the issue ... the settlements

... and finally (2023) ...

I remember decades ago, wondering what the "settlements" were in the "occupied territories", and had my eyes opened back then thanks to The Guardian (I think during the days of Clinton and Arafat). Likely, if both Rabin (Israel) and then Arafat (Palastine) had not been assassinated (1995/2004 resp), I think the situation would be much better today.

Watching this Al Jazeera video really highlights how sugar-coated the language is, in the news bulletins that we usually see & hear, over decades. Us Brits royally f-d this up, compounded by the newly formed and overly naive UN.

[BBC] Israel-Gaza: How much money does Israel get from the US?

[ITV] How do the Israeli military and Hamas compare in size and strength?

David vs. Goliath: The epic military mismatch between Palestine and IsraelΒ

It takes Trevor Noah to spell out just how 'unfair' the fight is (you may need a VPN for this thought-provoking 8 mins).

And remember, about 50% of Palestinians are aged 18 or under ...

The Times - People tell me I need to take a public stand (archive ph)- But if you need my help deciding whether one way of killing a baby is better or worse than another then we are lost

The FT's Simon Schama: Let us be, to grieve, rage, weep (free to read) - In the face of lethal peril, help for Jews has always been conditional

... learn the history of colonial violence and critically examine all media narratives, to gain a more accurate understanding of the situation and to advocate for non-violent liberation struggles for creating a more peaceful, just, and equal world ... groups like Hamas would become obsolete, theΒ  colonial occupation would end, political freedom and justice would thrive, alongside the countering of censorship and antisemitism.

Long watch, the excellent documentary Killing Gaza ... puts a human face on the Palestinian people.

From 2014-2018 but still very relevant as it shows up-close what will be happening today (and how and why).

Interview with the film-makers (20 mins)

Full documentary (it's a powerful watch) [1h36]Β - all politicians and decision makers around the world should have to watch this

The situation in Gaza has done something I thought all but impossible.Β It's made me feel worse than the Brexit debacle. Probably because it's happening so quickly.

The queues of right wing gobshites on social media making political capital out of a humanitarian tragedy is sickening.

Apparently, Israel is only as big as Wales. Gaza is the size of the Birmingham area, but with 2.5 times the population (upon which 6000 bombs have rained down in 1 week ... unimaginable). As per Friday's The News Agents podcast.

Excellent 3 min roundup by @AliVelshi on US TV from 2021 (more relevant now than ever) >

He's currently reporting from GAZA > https://twitter.com/WagnerTonight/status/1712654155678957925?s=20

EDIT - in the interest of balance, here's some forced laughter from (presumed) MAGAs > https://twitter.com/billmaher/status/1713051773676724675?s=20
