How is everyone dealing with the higher utility bills at the minute?

Had my bill from British Gas at the weekend and it came in at £700 and ran from late August to late Feb. Initially I was shocked but for that time period I don’t think it’s too bad. Having said that I work 4 days a week and spend most weekends at my girlfriends place, the heating is only on for a few hours a day when I get in from work and never on over night or if I’m away at weekend.

The Electric side was almost as much as the Gas, I was a bit shocked at the 50p a day standing charge as I hadn’t realised that had gone up as high as that. It worked out to nearly third of the bill at £91. Again electric use is limited I tend to use an air fryer rather than oven where possible and when working etc everything is turned off (even stand by on TV!)

anyone found any good tips for saving even more on utility bills yet?

We are paying £260 per month for gas and electric. This is overpaying as it was based on usage when my daughter and son-in-law were staying with us. Plus we have been away a lot recently. I could have brought it down to £200 and stayed in credit. I will lower the payment next month.

We have just switched to the Octopus Tracker which has brought costs down. Have also just had smart meters installed and am keeping an eye on our usage (will try not to obsess about it though!).

I’m paying £136 a month although BG refund £66 a month with the government grant ( I don’t see why that has to be refunded though? I would sooner leave in there as credit)

I will look at the Octopus tracker, last time I looked at switching even Octopus said don’t bother!

Just spoken to a mate in Spain. He lives in a flat in the North of Spain and has no central heating but they do run a few oil radiators, they have some government help with costs at the minute. His monthly electric charge is €20, without government funding it’s €55 and the  hot water and cooker are run off bottled  gas, he has 2 bottles and has to change one every other month at €20
