AMOC = Atlantic Meridional Overturning Current (of which the Gulf Stream is a part)
They found “early warning signals” of critical changes in the AMOC, which led them to predict “with high confidence” that it could collapse as early as 2025 and no later than 2095 (likeliest around 2050, between 2039 - 2070).
“It’s really surprising and alarming, but we’re very confident that this is a robust result.”
This channel is great ! (nsfw swearies) ?
Some real laugh out loud moments there, although it isn’t really funny.
With several major eco reports published over the last few weks, it's really not looking good! The rate of change highlighted by extreme weather events this year is apparently at the upper end of many "worst case scenarios".

This UK guy is excellent, science-based, and non-sensationalist (unlike the clickbaity thumbs!) with good graphics.

It’s funny how all the right wing rent-a-gobs, who were all in favour of criminals destroying ULEZ cameras, are incandescent over Chris Packham’s views.
Excellent no-nonsense articles:
Just how bad is climate change? It’s worse than you think.
What if we saw a headline tomorrow that said:
“World leaders allocate $10 trillion to rapidly decarbonize all of global agriculture, transportation and electricity generation in 5 years.”?
But world leaders are not even contemplating such an allocation. We can predict what’s coming:
- A combination of extreme heat plus drought causes the Amazon rainforest to burn and collapse.
- A large glacier collapses in Antarctica, causing significant sea level rise over a short period of time.
- Drought causes major cities to run out of water and be evacuated.
- Droughts and floods and heat combine to cause simultaneous widespread crop failures. One billion poor people starve to death.

Sadly, It's Not 'Just Another Summer.' We Must End the Fossil Fuel Industry
For anyone on socials complaining the latest temp stats (twitter) only go back to 1940 ...

... obviously haven't seen this (twitter) >
This is an unusual venue for an eco-lecture ! I was planning to FF thru this, but the first 30 mins is excellent ... and funny too! (EDIT: FF thru to the Q&A at the end, to see the most stereotypical of audiences! Such a shame that so few people attended).
The message is clear: before 2100, climate change will kill 1 billion people from starvation, and there will be a WW3.
Julian Allwood, (Professor of Engineering and the Environment at Cambridge University) gives a frank overview of the challenges of the reality of reaching zero emissions. He’ll explain the hurdles, and what the options are. [2022]
