I watched it in 3 sittings, 2+2+4eps, with ep5 being a standout that shows the producers really can do it when they try. Up till then it was perfectly OK, apart from the usual few daft things. The retro feel to the ship & crew was excellent, and I thought the crash was very ambitious and fairly well done.
turns to shit in the last 2 episodes.
But ep7 was terrible - so many stupid things happening, and even continuity errors (that I try not to spot) - raft building, tide, and dried blood on the beach body. Don't get me started on the amnesia ... It was almost like a spoof episode.
And the finale was not much better - descended into teenage mode, completely dumbed down. I wonder if the editors had trouble with the last 2 eps, as they were quite a bit shorter ... maybe they hacked it to try and make sense, and maybe build up the tension ? (they failed)
the eye monster ... Its powers to control.
Yes, a good idea but grossly underused - we only saw it in flying-octopus mode. I was really hoping the psycho sheep would have more to do ...
calling himself 'Boy' and skipping down a corridor ... reminded me a bit of Charles Hawtrey ...
Yes, although I got vibes of Willy Wonka !
PS:Β Not content with Star Wars, how on earth did Ade Edmonson get into the Alien franchise too ?? What a career ! *notworthy* 😁Β
24hrs later, this is still playing on my mind.
The whole science & lab thing, while moderately interesting, was completely unbelievable - not following any kind of safety protocols. Scenes would have been far more tense if they'd been professionally cautious, and then things still got out of hand.
Throughout, there was hardly any sense of fear or excitement, only a curiosity as to how things were going to pan out. It was fairly well paced - the eps passed quickly and didn't drag.
The acting was pretty good overall - I especially liked the brother's vulnerability and the redhead's full-on psycho mode. The main problem was the whole 'weekend-at-Bernies' segment and the goofy childlike behaviours of a couple of the characters (although difficult to separate out acting chops from the awkward situations).
We barely got a glimpse of what the hybrid robotic bodies were capable ofΒ ... maybe this is for S2 ? And weirdly, one glimpse turned into one of the goriest moments, but it was human-induced rather than by the alien/s !
Oh, and props for choosing Tool's Stinkfist as one of the closing tracks ! 🤘Β
