The Acolyte received an absolute bashing from the anti-woke brigade [*] but we thought it was quite good overall, with some really good fight choreography and a few excellent scenes.

[*] I mean, come on ...

Meanwhile, we just started Skeleton Crew - 2 eps in, and we're just not feeling it yet. Hope the kids' acting settles in, and things improve now that Jude Law has poppped up again ...

Skeleton Crew - 2 eps in, and we're just not feeling it yet

Oh dear ... pretty poor, and about as good as I feared the TV shows would be when I first heard about them years ago.

Too many 'unrealistic' things happen, acting is patchy, it's too dumbed down for small kids, even the CGI is the worst SW offering yet - some of the planetscapes aren't good at all, and there are hardly any worthwhile scenes. Towards the end in particular, the editing is choppy, and it seemed rushed and constrained by time or budget.

9. Mandalorian
8. Andor
7. Boba Fett
6. Acolyte
6. Ahsoka
5. Kenobi
3. Skeleton Crew
2. Bad Batch - I tried to like it, but didn't last more than 1 hour!

I think with Bad Batch it helps if you've seen the rest of the Clone Wars cartoons. I hadn't until Rebels finished and then I hunted them out. The prequel era films didn't do it for me, but the cartoons were much better. Both of those also give more weight to the Ahsoka show (and they're also where we first see the Dark Saber). I may give Acolyte a go if you rate it as high as that - I'd not read great things about it.

Finally watched it ... quite a mixed bag! We found that much of the first 7 eps were a struggle, with only a few glimmers of interest. What on earth was all that wedding (and dancing) nonsense ?? Were we supposed to feel anything for these characters that we knew nothing about ? Not too keen on the "One Year Later" announcements - very jarring. Also, I'm not really a fan of the lead actor, and they didn't give his girlfriend enough stuff to do - missed opportunity.

But the last 5 eps ... wow ! Really great, making the whole season worthwhile. Eps 8 and 9 in particular were superb TV, both very different to each other, but equally gripping. Pity we couldn't have had more of this brilliance smattered throughout, earlier on.
