I really liked HBO's Girls (Lena Dunham) back in the day - the first few seasons are some of the best TV I've seen, although it goes seriously downhill later. Such well-written (unpleasant) characters, and incredible character-driven scenes of heavy dialogue.
Then Fleabag of course ... outrageously funny, but seriously poignant. Mae Martin's Feel Good sitcom (Netflix) was excellent, and as raw as the equally excellent Nanette standup (Netflix) from Hannah Gadsby. I didn't like her Douglas half as much, but then moved to Daniel Sloss' standup (who shows how to be seriously edgy and seriously woke at the same time).
I discovered Michaela Coel from her brief appearance in Black Mirror's Star Trek spoof ep, then somehow enjoyed the zany low-budget Chewing Gum (def outside my demographic!) before being wowed by I May Destroy You - highly recommended.
Anyway, I'm currently halfway through Such Brave Girls on BBC iPlayer, and I've not enjoyed such unlikeable characters or LOLd at such an acerbic, brutal script in ages ... 😆 Imagine if Phoebe Waller-Bridge had written: (Derry Girls x Inbetweeners x Outnumbered) !

I recommended this to my mate, who unfortunately was watching whilst eating his morning porridge, only to be confronted by (his words) a post-coital cum-queef ... ! 😆
^ Such Brave Girls ... I spoke to soon - the first 3 eps are very good, then it goes downhill fast ...
Netflix - I've not heard of most of these, but thought The Night Agent was a mediocre 6/10 ...
The Night Agent was the biggest title on Netflix in the first half of 2023, racking up 812 million hours of viewing.
Ginny & Georgia S2 was second at 665 million hours, followed by:
The Glory Korean drama with 622 million hours.
Wednesday ranked fourth at 507 million hours of viewing (despite being released in November 2022).

Silo (2023) - I sat through this so you don't have to ! It starts off with an interesting premise, the lead is very good, and it obviously cost plenty to make - the physical dystopian world seems solid and initially believable (I wonder where it was filmed?) and the sound-design was effective.
But despite the F-bombs it all seems too ... teenage. By about ep 3, the cringey dialogue and plot/realism holes start to grate, and by ep 5 I was FF-ing over the many slow parts and completely stopped caring about the characters. To add insult to injury, I had even guessed how it would end (rare for me). Hard for me to rate as I found it unwatchable, so a generous 5/10.
Interesting as we really enjoyed Silo.
What did split us recently was The Winter King (TV Series 2023– ) - IMDb. The missus enjoyed it, I could barely sit through it. The acting was generally dull, the characters unbelievable and I kept being taken out of the period by the amount of diverse casting (Guinevere is a blonde black woman for example).
I loved Arcane (a rare 9/10 from me) and this promises to be just as good ...Without any measure of doubt, Blue Eye Samurai is not only the best animated series this year, but it’s also one of the best on Netflix of all time.
Created by the experienced wife-and-husband team Michael Green and Amber Noizumi (Logan, Blade Runner 2049), Blue Eye Samurai sets the benchmark with highly technical storyboarding and a well-visualized world.
This was excellent - a solid 9/10 apart from the very disappointing final episode. Beautifully animated, a decent if familiar plot, with ep5 being a highlight of perfectly-crafted storytelling.
Fargo S5 on Prime. Anyone else enjoying it? Always a good watch.
Loudermilk. Was on Prime originally, now on Netflix. Carrying on the tradition of grumpy sods who are funny simply because they're grumpy sods surrounded by idiots. Ron Livingston does just fine in the role of former addict now counselling others, and I thought this was underrated.
Fisk. Not a grump as such, but definitely encountering several people in her work as will and probate lawyer who could be classed as idiots. Australian comedy, short and sweet, and 2 seasons over in a jiffy. I liked, and hope there'll be more.
This has been good so far, from the people behind The OA. The lead actress recently played Diana in The Crown.
Hmmm. We finished this last night. It was very good all the way until the last episode, which felt rushed and from a different series.
