This is good, God I hope they dont cancel it as S2 needs to happen to finish the story.
And followed it up with this https://www.imdb.com/title/tt26443935/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
which I thought was also pretty good. A gentler approach to the apocalypse, in a similar vein to Station 11.
One Hundred Years of Solitude (Cien años de soledad) - Netflix
Very well made, theatrical & cinematic, very creative, surreal at times. Fans of the ('unfilmable') book are loving it.
Hard to pigeon-hole, it's a bit Gilliam meets del Toro, limited to a single (extended) family.
Certainly worth a watch, but we were left a bit disappointed overall, especially with the final 2 eps which take a turn. (8 eps released, another 8 to come).
EDIT: Weirdly, what didn't help was that my copy [WEBRip.6CH.x265.HEVC-PSA] sounded very flat, when it could/should have been an excellent soundtrack. Not heard any other sources, so maybe it was supposed to be this way (and fits with the narrator format).

@driver8 I will take a look. There is a distinct trend of Netflix commissioned shows petering out with a poor finish, leaving me with a dissatisfied end feeling.

Am just starting S2 of Silo as I blagged another free month of Apple TV. (I blame these forums for making me the bargain hunter in am today) just one episode in and so far I’m pleased. Adapted from a series of books there is a reassurance that there is a decent story arch behind it all.
well, in this case (without spoiling things) it certainly doesn't peter out, but very much the opposite! It turns from an intimate family drama into something much broader (and more action-packed).
Nice that sounds very promising, I’ll give it a poke!
Adolescence. If all Netflix productions were as good as this, I wouldn't have cancelled my subscription! Standing head and shoulders, on stepladders, above the standard streaming fodder, it's a four-parter with each episode filmed in one take... or at least they're made to look as if they are. I find it hard to believe that a crew is prepared to film for an hour knowing it could all fall apart at any time; as it happens, one actor does fluff a line well into an episode, but in a way that real people just sometimes get their tongue in a knot and correct themselves. Ironically that moment stood out for me not because a performer had possibly made a mistake, but because it made it look more real - no-one reciting a script ever realistically fumbles, because it's the cutting room floor if they do. There's no cutting room in a one-shot production! Anyway. Gimmick or not (and the jury's out on that one) it was so engrossing I stopped watching for possible joins.
It begins with the arrest of a terrified boy, at gunpoint, in his bedroom. He's charged with murder. It's a while before we find out who the victim is. And by the end of the first episode it had already turned into not what I thought it was going to be. It's a very current and on-the-nose exploration of the things that can shape young minds, which these days is inseparable from social media; one currently prominent name gets a mention, and you do feel that the makers wanted the name in on purpose - it's entirely relevant. The entire cast is great (Stephen Graham's done this one-shot thing before with the same director in Boiling Point) but a special mention must go to the young boy, who is almost unbelievably good. I won't say more, except watch it.
Weird timing ! I was literally just reading about it ... my other tabs >

watching this at the moment on a free 3 month Peacock sub (Via US VPN) Its my second Peacock recommendation, this is bloody good. Kinda like Mare of Eastown. Apparently Peacock is also free on Now/Sky, but I dont have those.
