I agree; The Orville is the best Star Trek show on TV currently.
Really enjoyed Sandman
The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix) is also highly recommended ?
I found this series of Stranger Things dragged on a bit slowly, not quite sure why....
.....nd a real curveball - Alice (Netflix) - a Korean time travel drama. Odd, but engaging, highly recommended if you want something completely different to US / British TV
The Boys S3 - some excellent scenes, and the acting is fine, but I think it's the plot and script that really let it down, as I get bored between the action. Homelander is a joy to watch of course - what a great baddie! But Butcher's accent is very annoying ... who thought a Kiwi could play a Cockney ?! With just a tiny bit more effort this show could be really great, whereas overall I'd rate it only "OK".
Westworld S4 - I'm a sucker for punishment ... another show that could easily be excellent with a bit more care, but ends up as "OK". Admittedly I'm not sure I understand everything, but that's more due to the deliberately cryptic story-telling than the complex plot, and the big reveals didn't have their intended impact. Superb visuals though?
Paper Girls on Amazon Prime. I really enjoyed it. Time travel meets Stranger Things.
Fifth season of soap opera Cobra Kai is now on Netflix. Let's hope it's the last; they've milked this long enough now. It was fun to begin with but apart from the fights it really is just a soap with little Barbies and Kens. I see there have been rumours about Hilary Swank joining this time (at the time of writing this I don't know if she does or not).
I recently watched S3 of The Boys and even with the recap I couldn't recall a single thing about the story so far, apart from Urban's awful accent. I hope they wrap this up next series,
The Handmaid's Tail is back! Well in the US anyway. No UK air date yet.
Thanks for the headsup - had never heard of it, and it sounds good.
Critical response S1
Rotten Tomatoes - 92% approval, 8.1/10 (39 critics).
"Gripping to the very end, well-built tension culminates in a riveting revitalization of a tired genre".
The Telegraph - four stars, "riveting"
The Independent - four stars, "intriguing, but rather flawed, Big Brother thriller".
The Times - four stars, a "neatly structured thriller... clearly out to interrogate surveillance culture".
The Guardian - "twisty if lacklustre drama" (3 stars ep 1), improving to "nuanced and complex" and "one of the most cleverly plotted dramas of recent years", the final episode is "a refreshingly grownup hour of television".
Viewership - the most requested new show in 2019 on BBC iPlayer (20 million requests for series 1).
Rotten Tomatoes (s2) - 100% approval, 7.8/10 (12 critics) "Deftly melding contemporary concerns with outlandish internal logic, The Capture's sophomore season is brainy camp that will detain your attention."
Finished 'Black Bird' last night - quite good, 7/10. Based on a true story.
The first 2 eps are a bit weird in tone, and I almost gave up after ep1.
Eps 3-4 are better, and eps 5-6 are very good, with a couple of excellent scenes.
Ray Liotta's final screen appearance, and he is excellent.
Actually, the main problem is that 'True Detective' and 'Mindhunter' are better!

Can't believe how they thought they could get away with such a racist and sexist title, I'm off to complain on Twitter and demand they never work again 😉
