oof ... our optimism over the new AI NR tool might be premature!
I just updated and gave it a quick spin ... the results are certainly decent, but it only works on RAW files.
On my system:
1) 50% default seems the sweet spot.
2) takes a full minute per image, although not as processor intensive as the other AI tasks. For my 2 test files, the results were barely better than what I'd already acheived (using the old manual NR), and in only a few seconds.
3) creates a new DNG file (60MB) alongside my original RAW (20MB).
4) I get a very annoying flashing to white while the image is processing! Likely my GPU driver (which is up to date).
So overall, I won't be using it very often!
Oh that's not good. Raw is not a problem for me but the others would be and I don't use a powerful pc either.
Gave a quick try last night. It wouldn't work on a DNG that LR had created via the HDR process. I tried a different RAW file which it said would take 25 minutes to process!
Think it may take a few iterations of the software to get it usable (for me).
25 minutes to process
Sheesh .. so I suppose I should count myself lucky with 1 minute !
I've only got a modest 4yo gaming laptop, i5 8-series, 8GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX-1060, external Dell monitor 1920x1200.
I watched this video last night - his system processes AI denoise in seconds! Many people in the comments complaining that it takes many minutes for them. (And 1 person also said he gets the flashing too). Interesting video going through several different photos, although he does over-NR imo.
Another from Terry White is worth a look too >
Thank you driver8.
