black box insurances
Never heard of that ... googling ... do you mean this from the RAC ?
https://www.rac.co.uk/insurance/black-box-insurance
Read the small print with black boxes - one of kids friends used to come round and leave engine running then go home - that classed as one trip if they turned engine off it classed as 2 and they were limited (don't know what happens if you stall). Also times were hard as a few started work early / shifts and wasn't compatible with black box.
"Pay-per-mile insurance is designed for low-mileage drivers and requires you to plug in a mile tracker.
You pay a one-off upfront cost to protect your parked car from theft and damage, then pay monthly for the miles you drive."
But it's now gone up from £300 to £400 in a week. Guess I won't be using them after all.
My renewal came through from Hastings Direct. Last year £249 this year £518. I went to cancel as I found a cheaper quote on a comparison site and all of a sudden they got it down to £313 including breakdown cover, legal expenses and hire car
My Home insurance has gone up £31.
£30 of that is a set-up fee that never used to be there.
Additional fees are quite common now as they're non-refundable if you cancel the policy. When I worked in insurance, the legal protection insurance had a cost price of 11p, IPT of 4p and £29.85 set-up fee. Even the 11p part was a scam as every customer had it by default for nothing as it was run by one of our own companies and there's loads of money to be creamed off in the event of a claim. To be fair though, the claims service was excellent according to feedback.
My Mum's car insurance renewal had gone up by more than £100, so she just switched over to Tesco for more or less the same.
my wife has finally opened her car insurance renewal letter so I can add that her's has gone up 21% on a 9 year old Ka.
no claims/changes.
Price still not too bad considering ...

Well, my own car insurance came through and it has gone up by 67% - £300ish to virtually £500.
So, as usual, I went to get a new quote and it was £762 ! (Directline which has been the cheapest for years).
Ended up going via Money Saving Expert which uses Money Supermarket for its quotes and got £334 at Tesco Bank. Almost identical cover.
