I can understand some of your concerns over trans issues, @jez, but to protect our families, the real problem is from within:

2017 to 2020, the rapist was:
- their partner or ex-partner (44%),
- someone else known to them (37%) including friends/dates,
- a stranger (15%).

As horrendous as it is, only a tiny amount of the 15% 'strangers' will be in any way related to male rapists identifying as women to gain access to women's spaces. (Trans people of course have been using the facilities of their choice for decades.)

The sheer numbers of recorded rapes are genuinely horrific >

Of the reported crimes, only 1-2% actually results in a conviction, and each case takes 3 whole years on average ... incredibly traumatic for the victims.

So personally, I wish more campaigning was being done to bring these figures down - we need governments to raise taxes to increase public services. It starts with education, then social services, then policing, then justice, then national health. And we need revisions to the whole legal and court systems to speed things up ... but it all costs money.

I finally got time to look at a few of your impressive copy-pasta of collated cases @jez - just a few at random, obvs - I see they date back to at least 2013, and I saw cases from UK, US, India and Australia ...

So 138 cases globally in 10 years ... making this the absolute understatement of the century >

There needs to be focus on the real issues, starting with governments and taxes and services. Just look what's happening ...

Sure, but high profile "stranger danger" campaigning can take away from the issue that the vast majority of women know their attacker. Where are our discussions about increasing levels of intimate partner violence ? You don't have to go back through 10 years of global news to find horrific recent UK events such as He Killed His Wife and Daughter - and - Man Denies Murdering Wife & Daughter.

I understand what you mean, but we need to make these spaces safer for all - as this is such a high profile and emotive issue, it's the perfect time to invest in proper facilities. Let's have manned facilities, security cameras, swipe cards, etc ... to deter predators in the first place and then increase the appallingly low conviction rates.

No one is saying that here, and most men throwing this accusation are likely abusers themselves creating a smokescreen. It's no better than asking "what were you wearing?"

Men have always been free to dress as women and 'sneak' into womens' toilets, and trans women have been strolling into womens' toilets for decades. There's no need for anyone to say they're a woman or not, it's assumed.

If challenged, a man can claim to be a woman, and has always been able to. But then what happens?

Security = (1) deterrent, (2) witness, (3) physical intervention.

The people obsessing about trans issues (on both sides) are actually doing vastly more harm to women and women's rights and trans people and their rights ,than the extremely rare trans (m->f) person committing an actual offence.

Because there are many areas where women's rights are in desperate need for protection, areas whose neglect lead to millions of women suffering on a daily basis, whilst people who might be inclined  or able to address these issues are distracted by both sides of the 'trans' argument creating vast amounts of hot air about something that is not, relatively speaking, a huge problem, and would be much more likely to be rationally sorted out if it wasn't for the obsessive and near hysterical (and very loud) ranting by small minorities on both sides.

@jez - please don't make cheap jibes, we are trying to have a serious chat. Yes, trans women and girls have always been able to use the toilets of their choice.

Sure, some men have dressing up kinks, but the vast majority of trans people are not living out a fetish.

As I've mentioned before (on TDF) - take a few minutes to listen to the fascinating 'How To Be A Girl' BBC podcast. It's a real eye-opener, and explains the doubts and worries that any parent would have. It's definitely not TRA propaganda, but a real human story.

And this is the girl in question - born with a penis, but living as a girl since the age of 4 (she's a teenager now). I know it sounds weird to us non-trans folks, but that's her reality. Would you insist that she pees in the Gents ?

What is this aggressive lobby that coined the term "transgender"? Transgender people have been around for centuries and probably thousands of years.

Transgender and transvestism are entirely different. Neither is the result of any lobby.

How can you so easily dismiss that mum's lived reality? She's lying ? The kid is ?

Don't be ridiculous. This is the anti-gay argument in the US, where a speaker said that men would start marrying their sons !

What men's nonsense do you think I believe ?

Nope, let's make it harder for abusers to abuse the systems.
