Pioneered by Magnus Hirschfeld, who was a pioneer in the study of both homosexual and transgender people. His institute was a place not only of scientific study, but also of community and support.

I don't really understand how and why the whole sex argument is mixed up in trans issues, muddying the waters:
What Is Sex? > Sex is determined at birth according to the baby’s chromosomes, gonads, and anatomy. Medically, there are three possible sexes assigned at birth: female, male, and intersex (ambiguous genitalia are very rare at 0.02%–0.05% births, not the oft-touted 1.7%).
What is Sexuality? > Who you’re attracted to, your sexual behaviours, and your identity. Hetero, plus LGBTQIA+
What Is Gender? > Gender is a societal and cultural system, not predetermined by sex. Gender expression is masculine, feminine, androgynous.
- “Cisgender” - aligns with the cultural assumptions of their sex.
- "Transgender" - doesn’t match the assumed characteristics of their assigned sex.
- "Nonbinary" - doesn’t align within male/female.

Its fascinating how the satisfaction rate is so high, despite the fact that according to TRA, they're supposedly this tiny, helpless, and utterly oppressed group with absolutely no rights or freedoms whatsoever.

The chances of your daughter being abused by a trans person are 0.00000001% of her being abused by someone she knows. I believe your concerns should lie elsewhere.
Satisfaction rates are so high in spite of the hate and intolerance they face from a large number of people including you. Says a lot for how important the change has been for them.
