Aha!

How ‘Excuseflation’ Is Keeping Prices — and Corporate Profits — High

a defining factor of excuseflation is that it gives companies a cover to raise prices together, limiting customers’ ability to shop elsewhere.

1) “We call it the new PPP ... Pepsi Pricing Power.” It effectively allowed the soft drink giant to raise prices to make up for volume sales losses in Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.

2) When the wholesale cost of chicken wings was soaring (+125%) back in 2021 — Wingstop “began to push prices ... with zero pushback from the consumer. When wholesale wings prices fell 50%, Wingstop didn’t reverse course. In fact, they’re +2-3% higher. Profits are up, and its stock has soared 250%.

Somebody posted this ... good grief, is this typical ?? (And iirc, the BATTS brand is perfectly decent).

This is how Tesco do some of their stealth price rises: stop making own brand products that are less than 2/3 the price of branded.

Another of their slimy tricks is to find something that Aldi sell for more than they do, then put up the price they charge, and put a big 'Aldi price match' label on it.

Give me lack of self-awareness any day, over blatant lying and buffoonery!

That City AM article has a sunny headline, when the article is really saying that things aren't going to be quite as bad as we thought, but ...

Instead of sliding into recession, the UK economy is likely to undergo a sustained period of stagnation (as the years after the 2008 financial crisis).

The UK is still the only country in the G7 to not reach pre-Covid GDP levels, and is still likely to clock the worst growth in the group in 2023.

Having said that, I'm not big on this whole GDP thing anyway, mainly cos growth-growth-growth (promoted by CON and LAB) is what's destroying the planet, but also cos of things like 10% of the UK GDP is literally made up!

Meanwhile, this is absolutely mental ... re-routing 500m gallons of water across the country ... what could possibly go wrong?

That cap that only affect 1% of "everyone else"? And we don't even know if his pension savings are above that cap.

What a few lickspittle tory apologisers are bleating about is the amount of his pension, which was set by the government, not himself or the DPP.

What you are bleating about is the tax relief on pension contributions, which will apply to any further pension he receives.

35% managed to recoup their losses in trade with the EU by trading outside, the rest didn't. Not really a resounding success.

This really is becoming tiresome.

That headline is quantitatively meaningless.

Firstly what has brexit to do with non EU trade?

Secondly, two thirds of businesses could each lose millions in EU trade and gain a fiver in non EU, and the headline would still be true.

If jezzer keeps posting headlines that don’t mean what he thinks they mean it’s just making him look ever more desperate and foolish.

Wonderful occurrence on QT last night. Fiona Bruce told us that more people in the audience voted for BoJob than any other party. She then asked that any member of the audience that believed him to raise their hands.

NOT A SINGLE HAND WENT UP.
