Finally ! Yesterday, James O'B tackles the trans issue, with a monologue followed by an interesting phone-in (about 50 mins in total).
Bad timing for Jez to disappear, cos I would really like to know what he thinks of this (in fact, I might just email him). In particular, the final caller on the subject seems to be coming from the point of view of Jez's wife (as far as he explained things), suffering from PTSD and genuinely worried about men in female spaces.
An absolute must-listen for everyone remotely interested in the topic. Starts here, 45 mins in.

edit - oops - the time stamp doesn't seem to stick, so FF to 45 mins, and run through to about 1h38.
Before I even listen to it I'm going to predict that the most disturbing thing about it will be people (on either side) trying to shut down anyone expressing views that don't align with their own.
I just hope I'm wrong.
Diving in ... now.
hehe ... well, I was very surprised, firstly by James' admission to avoiding this topic on his radio show for too long (he has written about it), and secondly by how rational and middle-of-the-road all the callers were. I wish he'd carried on with the subject for the last part of the show, too, so we could have had one extreme view from each end of the argument.
In Jez's absence, I should post this from a few days ago, which has certainly rattled lots of people!
But in addition, I will also post a rebuttal by TransLegalProject > The Observer opinion piece by Sonia Sodha
And in graphic form, below ! (right click, open in new tab)
But honestly, this is way too much detail for me, and I'm not sufficiently well-versed in the arguments. At first read, Sonia's article speaks a lot of sense, and certainly explains what a lot of women think. But conversely, a lot of women (a majority, by the last poll I saw) are happy to share their spaces with trans women.

Going back full circle J.K. is back in the news as talks of Harry Potter TV series, plus maybe movie 9?
Emma + Daniel want nothing to do with movie if JK is involved others not so against (guess they've not made enough cash).
The movie studios tried to buy her out - no numbers mentioned but as she's Producer on the show I guess the number was very high - but if series happens the movie could then happen with new cast. Also insisting new series is still British - not set in America or Paris as suggested elsewhere
The reporting is still JK = transphobe - but I'm not convinced that is the case she just disagreed on some points with the "group think" - that been the bigger apparent thought crime. The reporting hints her company is still making 50-150million a year off HP - so not really cancelled!
JK is not transphobic
Trans women are not women
males should be kept out of female spaces/sports
People should (and do) have the right to dress how they please, sleep with who they like, rename themselves, compete in sport based up on their biological sex, use public bathrooms. There are no missing rights.
It’s pretty simple really.

Well it's not really simple at all.
To say that Trans women are not women is a pretty harsh statement and one that I strongly disagree with.
The whole area of women's safe space needs a nuanced debate with different solutions for different spaces and environments. At the moment I only see very divisive arguments on social media with polarised opinions.
Trans women are not biological women though, it has to be more granular than that. I don't see why pre-fixing trans in front of woman is a big issue for trans activists. I agree trans women should be allowed into female spaces like toilets etc but I can see there could be fringe cases where this might not be acceptable.
I also don't think JK Rowling is transphobic and India Wolloughby is not doing any favours for the majority of trans people with her twitter spew, the vast majority of trans people just want to get on with being who they want to be quietly. It also annoys me when people call trans women him rather than their preferred pro-noun, it really doesn't do any harm to call them what they want to be called.
I think the only people who can say this are trans people. That would be a like a white person deciding what is and isn't racist.JK is not transphobic

Yet they seem to label anyone who doesn't agree with them 100% as transphobic. As a few people have said, it's a lot more greyer than that. I'm a big believer in live and let live, right up until that living negatively affects someone else.
