I saw EMU straight away, but couldn't see the significance of it.

I don't see how the Oscars or or Joaquin Phoenix relate to Rod Hull or Emu.

Am I just being particularly stupid, today?

No, it's just the poster for the new Ridley Scott Napoleon film and someone thought the position of his right arm resembled that of Rod Hull, hence Emu.
